Week 2

Lecture

The directional change toward the sustainment will not occur of itself: it can only occur by design.

In order for the kind of changes that the Sustainment requires to come to be, all design practices have to change and break from exclusive service to the status quo.

-Fry Tony “Design Futuring: Sustainability, Ethics and New Practice” 2009

How does change happen?

If we see something that is worthy of change, will we follow him or not? A leader is nothing without followers.

What are some of the biggest changes you’re personally experienced in your last 10 years?

Reflective Questions:

·       Were these changes that you would have predicted?

·       Did you make these changes on purpose?

·       Were these goals that you pursued, or did they just happen to you?

·       Did they take you by surprise?

·       What were the ripple effects of these changes across all areas of your life?

Look Back to Look Forward

We can look at history to evaluate what is worth keeping and what is not. What is the core values we desire to keep.

·       Build a common perspective on important past events and moments when changes happened

·       Find potential patterns of change and explore how the may continue to shape the future

·       Create group awareness of that major change that has happened in the past and will happen in the future.
