Product Sketching
Lesson 1 (Week 3)
On the first lesson for our sketching class, we had to bring different types of pens ranging from gel, ballpoint to hybrid. With these pen, Chun Beng got us to practise drawing lines with them to see which one was more smooth and easier for us to draw with. On the paper, we had to mark a dot on both end of the paper and attempt to draw a straight line. We had to do this across the entire piece of paper. Because I came from a product design background, I had done this practise before but it was still hard to draw straight line consistently. But after a few attempts, I was able to better draw straight lines and figure the angle in which I drew best at.

After which he also got us to draw curves by making us imagine that there was a circle in the centre of the page and we had to draw our lines over it. I had more struggles with it as I didn’t know when I should start to curve move and when to move less. But I manage to do a few of them.

After that he got us to practise drawing diagonal lines from a point at the end to the centre. This was basically how a two point perspective worked. The hard part was ensuring all the lines meet at the point at the end of the page. I think I manage to do it for a few lines in the end but it wasn’t perfect.

Afterwards, he got us to practise drawing some simple shapes: square, triangle and circles. From there, we also drew out squircles and triacles. We drew a few in class but we also had to practise drawing them at home. We also had to practise the other drawing exercises as well.
Lesson 2 (Make Up)
For this lesson, he took a look at our drawings and gave us feedback on it. Overall for me, he could see I have done my practise and was used to drawing faint lines. He gave us some more time to practise this shape and also gave us a challenge to draw a circle that was the accurate size of a tape he was holding. For myself, I drew it too big and realise I can draw big circle rather decently.

After that he got us to practise drawing some simple object that we have. We had to practise drawing them in perspective by first drawing a box in perspective. Then we had to slowly form the shape of the object by drawing the shapes we drew previously. We just need to get the basic form done and then we can details if we want. We are to practise drawing the object until we get the proportions right. Below are my attempts.

Lesson 3 (Week 4)
In this lesson, we continued to draw some more attempts at drawing real objects but we swiftly moved on to the next exercise. For this exercise, he gave us 6 technical drawings. From this technical drawing, we were suppose to draw the 3D perspective of the object. The technical drawings only has the front, top and right view. So it is up to us to use the information to construct the object. Below are the technical drawing we are suppose to draw. For myself, I did very quick mini sketches of the objects on the paper when I first got them. For myself I am able to very quickly convert 2D drawings into 3D drawings due to my previous background.

These are my sketches of these technical drawings. These are a accumulation of those I drew in class and those I drew at home. We were advised to help each other in doing this exercise. Since I am quite proficient in visualising, I did provide my classmates some help with this exercise. I may or may not have created a computer aided 3D model of these 6 object (It was honestly very fun to practise Rhino). But I didn't rely on those computer models for my sketches.

On Week 5, since the class was online, we didn't really have any drawing classes. But Chun Beng did get us to show him our sketches through Google Meet.
Lesson 4 (Week 6 Make Up)
So, this lesson was supposed to be on Tuesday but Chun Beng couldn't make it. So he did a replacement class on Thursday as Siwei was also sick that day. Unfortunately, I was also sick so I didn't attend the class. The content of today's class was to do an orthographic view of the rectilinear figures we were supposed to make in 3DF class. I did this exercise in next week's make-up class. This was my orthographic drawing that I did during the next lesson

Lesson 5 (Week 7 Make Up)
So as previously stated, during the first half of this lesson, I had to catch up with the other students by drawing the orthographic view of my model. Afterwards, Chunbeng got me to draw some more objects but this time they were a bit more complex. During the lesson itself, I only manage to draw the earphones he provided. He told me to draw the side profile of the earphone before moving on to drawing it in 3D. He told me to loosen up my drawings a bit and not have so many constructed lines. This are my attempts.

He also gave me some tasks to do during the term break. The first was to draw the earpiece cover for the earpiece that I just drew. The outer shape was relatively all right but the inner details did test my skill in drawing contour lines. My attempts are at the side.

I also had to draw the profile of either a spray bottle or a spray dispenser. After drawing the profile, we could try ideate on its form.

Lesson 6 (Week 9)

During this week's lesson, Chun Beng reviewed the work that I had done and gave some feedback on it. For the sketches of my profile, he gave me feedback that there shouldn't be contour lines as he just want to focus on the overall form. So I sketched out the spray bottle profile and started ideating on the form. After drawing a few, Chun Beng suggested that I draw more symmetrical profiles instead of my asymmetrical ones. Using his advice, I drew a few more and started to switch towards drawing a spray dispenser. Afterwards, Chun Beng highlighted some forms he think were nice and asked me to develop them a bit.

After that Chun Beng gave us one final exercise. We are supposed to draw out our ideal water bottle. After drawing it out, we had to render using our alcohol markers. Unfortunately, the paper that I was using wasn't suitable for markers so they stained the other side really badly. So I borrowed some paper and drew my bottles on them to render.
